幼児期の「社会性」の発達を促す教育は、養育者とのコミュニケーションや共感を育て、学齢期の知育や大人になってからの社会的な成功の基礎を築く上で非常に重要であることが、ノーベル賞受賞者のジェームス ヘックマンによる40年間の追跡調査により健勝されています。CCS調査では、子どもの社会性の発達の遅れを「仲間遊び苦手」という指標により調査し、このリスク要因を持った子は、学齢期以降の各種のリスクが大きく拡大することを明らかにしました、また、「仲間遊び苦手」になるリスクを軽減する強み要因も多数あり、それらを活かした予防策を取ることも有効であることが示されました。「仲間遊び苦手」になる原因は、親のしつけや接触の態様が大きく影響するほか、親が子どもだった頃からのリスク要因が大きな影響を与えていることも示されました。
